So apparently these are the kinds of kids that the government wants to take custody of these days. The question has to be asked, how is this going to benefit him overall? (more…)

Too bad to be true? 18 February, 2007

Recently came across this site randomly about the US Air Traffic Control system, or rather the current breakdown of it.  There are some things on it that are just shocking and it makes you wonder just how true it is.  Scary thing is though, the scenarios themselves are perfectly feasible.  We’ve seen plenty of management stupidity in our time I’m sure.

If things really are this bad over there, I’m very scared for the future of US air travel.

I used to ‘get’ Valentines’ Day. Seriously, I did. It was all about giving me an excuse to let certain special someones know how I actually felt about them, because I’m otherwise too idiotically petrified to do so, or too embarrased or some other such stupidity.

There’s a side effect to this though. (more…)

When bad things happen to good albums 5 February, 2007

Last week I got hold of a few albums, namely the new albums from Muse and Hundred Reasons as well as an oldie from Daft Punk (Homework).

I haven’t listened fully through Homework yet, but I have the other two and the first thing that struck is me how bad the recordings sound, and there’s really no excuse for it.

The Muse album is recorded too hot throughout and leaves clipping all over the place.  At times it’s quite annoying.  The Hundred Reasons album on the other hand is over-compressed, just like a Generic American Corporate Rock(TM) band would do.

Highly disappointing.  Somebody needs a good kicking!

After that I decided to have a listen to my old Ride CDs (the original releases rather than the reissues), and I’ve already noticed that the old Nowhere release sounds much better than the new one.  I can’t tell much of a difference with the others though.

CCTV is fattening 5 February, 2007

The company I work for, if I haven’t already told you this, makes equipment to transport CCTV signals along optical fibres. As such, we have plenty of cameras set up in random positions in the lab so that we can check the signal quality and such like.

Every time I walk past one, however, I see myself and my word do I look bad on camera!!

Highly depressing.

For the record, I also don’t like the sound of my voice.

In other news… Well, there isn’t any really. Life goes on, and I’m feeling a bit better about myself at the moment, which is nice. My badminton partner/general excellent mate (codename: Gamgee) and I both said at the beginning of the year that this year was gonna be a good’un.

It certainly has been for him (what with his new girlfriend an’ all), so hey – things are still looking up :)

Incidentally, did I miss the mating season memo or something? Saxon and Gamgee both get girlfriends, Med’s getting married as is Stalwart Defender (who Saxon refers to as SW, btw), and I got the impression Northerner was getting friendly with Rocket Scientess on Saturday night. (It would be interesting to see who actually reads this who has any clue of who I’m talking about!)

Or I could just be seeing relationships where none exist, eh Alfie? (Hopefully he remembers what I mean by that, if *he* ever reads this).
